          Who Is Ted Cruz?

          Conservative politician Ted Cruz grew up in Houston, Texas, earning his bachelor's at Princeton University and going on to Harvard Law School.

          Cruz served as an adviser on the 2000 presidential campaign of George W. Bush and became solicitor general of Texas in 2003. He won election to the U.S. Senate in 2012 with the support of the Tea Party and went on to orchestrate a governmental shutdown in opposition to Obamacare.

          After losing his bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination to Donald Trump, Cruz was re-elected to the Senate in 2018.
